‘Art Mugs’ Dave?…

But first…Dulltown, Europe: Today’s weather is composed of round hard aerial turnips bumping and grinding above clouds of hot gaseous ox-tail soup.

So, walking through town a week or so ago, as I glanced into the window of the ’20 minute Photo’ shop I noticed some china mugs with people’s photos printed on them – rather like the one of the lovely toddler on the cartons in the picture above.
Of course! I could get some of my art put onto mugs and sell them, or in desperation, give them away…
I popped into the shop and found that they cost over £6 each, which isn’t really too bad, but if I ordered ten the unit price would come down to a fiver. I ordered ten…
In the photo you can see my 1991 charcoal drawing ‘City Road’ with an example of the corresponding ‘Dave Whatt Art Mug’. Doesn’t it look nice dear reader? I am very pleased with this new vehicle for my work.
I have never been much of a money-oriented go-getting business person, so I am pretty useless at selling things. It would be a pity to give them away and make a £50 loss, but if I was to charge £10 for them it would seem a bit steep for something just to drink your coffee out of, wouldn’t it?
How about this? I am of course a bit of an ‘old hippy 1960s sort of person’ so perhaps I should say to the prospective purchaser something like, ‘How about five quid, plus whatever you think would be appropriate to support the arts – me, that is…’
Anyway they are very nice objects and the printing is quite crisp considering it’s under a glaze on china. If these ‘fly off the shelves’ I ought to do some more featuring another drawing. People might start collecting them – like those awful ‘limited edition’ plates that you see advertised in magazines… It could snowball – I could end up with an ‘Art Mug’ empire… I’ll keep you posted dear reader…

Wow! I hope this really takes off for you! The joys of an off-the-cuff idea that flies. It’s very easy to add Pay Pal to your blog, Dave. If I could follow the instructions… I went with “donation” – and then gave the suggested amount. Of course if anyone wants to add to that, fine. It works so easily.
