The Surface of the Earth…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s weather will be composed of deafening cloudness with ice elated showers.

So, there I was, slouching down the road, in the cold and damp, a month or so ago, and not feeling very cheerful – I was on my way to the dentists for a drilling and spitting session; I’m a terrible wimp on such occasions; I trudged up the long concrete flyover, (‘overpass’ for my US readers) that crosses over the main railway lines (‘tracks’ for my US readers) in and out of Dulltown, and I happened to glance over the parapet wall down to the waste ground below…

DSCN2604Because my camera, a little cheap Nikon compact, is quite light in weight, I have it with me all the time. I made the heroic decision that I should ignore my miserable state of mind, force myself into creative mode, and quickly lean over and take a picture of the area below…
Nice isn’t it?…
I like the way that at first glance there is no apparent sense of scale. The picture could be taken from a height of a couple of feet, or perhaps even from an aircraft at several thousand; those stones could be dust, or they could be giant boulders… then you spot some recognisable features – a bottle, the odd tin can and the scale is then set.
Ah, the beauty of rubbish – I think I’m fairly good at photographing rubbish…
So Dave, how did it go at the dentists?…
