Hey Dave, it’s all black and white!…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s hippopotamus is the one sitting in the library reading Jean-Paul Sartre.

DSCN2917Hey! Look! Here’s some art…
Let’s start at the top: clipped to that drawing board hanging on the wall is a charcoal and pencil drawing done earlier this year, it’s called ‘Landscape No. 98’… and before you ask, no, I don’t know what it’s all about – they just come to me out of nowhere… Below that, and also pinned and clipped to the board, are a couple of my untitled lino prints; they are there to remind me that they are not too bad really, and that I must do some more. The one on the right looks a bit Japanese to me… see those jolly jumping fish!…
Sticking its silly head up between them is an untitled sculpture from last year; oh, by the way, the thing it’s perched on isn’t really part of it, it’s a stand I made for an Aspidistra that someone gave me years ago… no, the Aspidistra is still alive and kicking, but now living on a nice shady window sill. The pedestal didn’t used to be black, but pink, to match the skirting boards in the place I used to live… Yes, pink… there’s nothing wrong with the colour pink you know!… Back to the sculpture; it looks from here as if it’s made of lovely bronze or obsidian or something (if only!) but it is really a heavy mahogany-like hardwood painted black and waxed, nevertheless it does look pretty good I think… Oh look, even though it is turned sideways on, I’m sure the brute is silently watching our every move…

Wonderful work, Dave and worthy of display – and of framing! Pink, eh? What a world you have lived in!
