Some stuff on my drawing board…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s heraldic term is ‘couchant’ – of a beast, lying down with head erect. (couchant)
On my shield, my hippopotamus was ‘guardant’, but I didn’t like the look in his eye, so I had him changed to ‘Couchant’.

Here’s a photograph of the top corner of my old architect’s drawing board where I stick things which I find interesting, or things that I might find useful in future projects…

DSCN3631Come along, shall I describe the items for you dear reader? No, really… it will only take a minute or two… Shall we go from left to right?…
So, on the upper left you see part of a printout of that pastel drawing (1993) that I featured here a couple of days ago. After showing it to the world and looking at it a bit more closely I realised that for some reason I don’t do work like this these days; it is so bright and cheerful! I printed it out to remind me to try this sort of thing again… Next, you’ll be wondering what that hanging strip of brown wood is… No, no, come on, please wonder… It has little legs underneath (screws, half screwed in) so that I can place it over a drawing, like a bridge, to enable me to do careful close up work in the middle of the paper without resting my hand on the stuff already drawn in.
Two black guitar straps (home-made) one with normal holes for the strap buttons, and one with Schaller patent strap locks fitted. These hang in front of a picture taken from the TV screen of the wonderful sexy Fenella Fielding in the 1966 film ‘Carry On Screaming’. I once did a large black and white charcoal drawing from this, but just of her eyes. (C.O.S.) To the right, there are a couple of postcards, I’m not sure what the one underneath is, but the one on top is a picture of Frederick, Lord Leighton’s 1856-ish painting ‘The Fisherman and the Syren’ (I see his lordship spells ‘siren’ with a ‘y’ – never seen that before!) – another example of Victorian eroticism, (or shall we say porn?) masquerading as respectable art; it’s a lovely bit of painting though! I’d have it on my wall… Sexy!… (T.F.A.T.S) Dangling in front of that is one of those strings that you can fasten to your glasses, that goes around your neck, so you don’t keep losing them. I don’t use it much, the string tends to irritate my lobes…
And finally, if we lower our gaze, we can see a photo of the Metaphysical painter Giorgio de Chirico at home in his later years. Oh, I do like Giorgio’s work!… (G.d.C)
