Shall I call this one ‘White Yellow Blue’?…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s unusual pencil sharpener is the one shaped like a gust of wind.

DSCN3637‘Oh, but Dave!…’
‘What?…’
‘Don’t you know that Flickr, that popular photo sharing site, is packed full of photos of the backs of people’s heads?’
‘Oh?…’
‘Yes, all of them by shy and timid photographers who daren’t talk to people, too scared to ask if they can take someone’s picture, but they feel they really need to take one, so they end up taking the back of the person’s head! There are so many of those Dave…’
‘Er…’
‘So now you’ve gone down that road too!…’

Well, I hope not…
No, I was sitting on a bus and I was struck by the nice contrast between this old chap’s nice white hair and the bright yellow of the handrail zipping horizontally straight across in front – they’re very dynamic are handrails… I couldn’t resist…
We could even slip in that very arty word ‘juxtaposition’ here, if you like… The rich blue of the seat upholstery is good too.
What about his head being off-centre to the left then? Well seeing as he is looking slightly to the left anyway I think it works – it ‘leads the eye’. Yes, this one is all about composition and colour – not really that interesting, but it all about composition and colour… Oh, and isn’t the chap’s ear nicely pink and fleshy?…

About Dave Whatt

Grumpy old surrealist artist, musician, postcard maker, bluesman, theatre set designer, and debonair man-about-town. My favourite tools are the plectrum and the pencil...
