Mail Art Postcard No. 4453…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s fine expletive from Elizabethan times is, ‘By Saint Martin I think it fine gold!’ – used ironically when the object in question is obviously base metal.
I think I’ll try to bring it back into fashion with remarks like, ‘Hm, your cheese salad sandwich – by Saint Martin, I think it fine gold! – Here take it back, I’m not eating another mouthful of it!…’

Oh, come on dear reader! Let’s have a look at another of my Mail Art postcards! Simple fleeting little art works that buzz off, snug in their envelopes, through the postal services of the world to amuse, someone, somewhere. A rectangle of fluorescent card (‘postcard size’ of course) with a couple of bits cut from that awful British TV listings magazine What’s On TV? stuck on it. Is this surrealism? It is, if I say it is…

WP F 4453Well… Goodness me! What can I say about this one? It is certainly small and discreet, but I’m not sure about comfortable. He does look a little bit concerned. Who is this chap anyway? Is this a still from a Hollywood thriller? Is that vial (it’s a nice word vial!) really a radio transmitter that he must somehow secrete about his person? Or is it full of dangerous glowing radioactive suetonium compound (a surprisingly deadly isotope of suet) bubbling and frothing away ready to destroy half the world? Or is this chap just an out of work actor doing a quick photo shoot for a man-scent commercial? I’ll bet the stuff in the bottle has got a name like Musk-Groin, or Tang-Sweat, or something. He’s certainly giving it a good stare, whoever he is… Oh, I think the piece of text might be from a hearing aid advert… how very dull!…
