Spatter spatter, big spatter…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s financial forecast is for the all poor people to rise up and take every last red cent of the rich people’s money and have a great big party with singing and dancing in the streets.

Spatter 14... (29 x 21)Spatter No. 14. (2015) Acrylic on paper 29″ x 21″.

Yes, here is another of my recent ‘spatter’ paintings.
‘Excuse me Dave, would you call these “action paintings”?’
Well, yes, I suppose I would. Do people still do “action paintings”? It seems a very 1950s sort of term doesn’t it? Perhaps there is a new trendy name for this sort of thing that doesn’t sound so old fashioned?…
Dear reader, please imagine this one, not 29 inches by 21 inches, but blown up to a grand scale, let’s say to the size of a three-storey house; perhaps it has been erected in Trafalgar Square close to the National Gallery? There, that’s better isn’t it? Imagine all the tiny people standing around the foot of it, pointing up and discussing the nuances of splashy tints, tone, line, and form – did I just hear the word juxtaposition being bandied around?…
No, but this one almost has a feel of three-dimensionality about it, the forms seem to exist in a real space, not just as areas of flat colour. I think it has something to do with that horizontal red blobby line resting across the bottom, and the skinny legs of the pointy blue beast, yes, him with the cute ears, him on the right – he looks like he is definitely mincing about on a flat white surface…
I wonder if this is the sort of thing someone might consider having, in a nice frame, over their fireplace, in their elegant and tastefully ordered posh living room?…
