Pensive and wistful at the fair?…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s piece of classical music is Johannes Brahms’ Variations on a theme of Haydn, more commonly known in musical circles as ‘that awful racket’.

DSCN4166Here’s a photograph of mine from last October. Once a year a very large travelling fair comes to Dulltown for a week, when it’s here it’s called Hull Fair; it is pretty colourful, impressive, and quite noisy, it is very good, if you like that sort of thing…
This picture was taken on the Sunday afternoon when it was closed, but people do like to wander around and look at it all in the cold light of day – I do too.
What do you think of my composition? I do like to mess with the conventions that are suggested in the photography books. Really I suppose this is two-thirds a picture of some crumbling concrete, with some green lights, and a chap, slipped in at the top.
Do you think this photograph might be poignant, dear reader? Oh, love that word, let’s say it again… poignant… Also, see how I have cleverly increased the ‘poignancy level’ by sticking the chap alone up in the corner; is he deliberately turning his back on the flashing bright gaudiness? Does he look wistful? I must Google that, not sure what wistful actually means… Ah, yes, just done it – ‘wistful’ is fine. I wonder if he is pensive too?… Hm…
See how he glances into the drab empty area of the picture – what is he thinking? Hey, what’s that rich meaty smell? I expect he’s toying with the idea of seeing if one of the burger stalls is still operating – and a nice hot frothy coffee would be good too, it’s a bit nippy, this grey October day…

  1. He’s thinking “I’m sure there was a Porta-loo around here yesterday” 😀 Nice picture though – the colour contrasts nicely.
