The rushing white thing…

But first…
Dulltown, Europe: Today’s heraldic term is heater shield: a shield shaped like the base of a flatiron. (HS)

DSCN4202Look out! Here it comes!… Let’s duck down the alley and get out of its way… Gosh, you can feel the shock wave as it zips past us!… Hope it doesn’t turn round and come back!…

Yes, this picture was taken last December; a piece of splintered white-painted thin plywood discarded on the street. Was it worth photographing? Hm, yes, I think so, but it’s not quite the setting sun raking across the orange-glowing Grand Canyon, or the majestic Taj Mahal with a solemn pale princess, sitting moping, in front of it, is it?…
As you can see, the exposure was a bit tricky – if I’d hovered the little square on the camera screen over the pavement to get the setting, the whizzing plywood would have been totally bleached out – so the compromise was to get the footprints and detail on the plywood nicely exposed and put up with a darkish pavement and those autumn leaves on the left being rendered perhaps a little bit too sombre and earthy.
When I put this one in my collection on Flickr I think I’ll call it, This is Not Art. No. 6. But then again, I suppose it is art now… I’ve seen far less interesting things on gallery walls…

  1. Its nice – looks like a moon on a night sky, with bits of jagged cloud. Oh, interesting fact of the day – its a Strawberry Moon tonight, and it coincides with the summer solstice (which has sent all the Stonehengers into something of a frenzy, apparently) BUT, the strawberry moon doesn’t mean its going to be a pink one, oh no. It simply means its the start of the strawberry season, and who doesn’t love a nice juicy strawberry! šŸ˜€
