Mail Art Postcard No. 4612…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s carefully selected adjectives are: anodyne, dramaturgic, spelaean, waxy, pyretic, groined, and bombastic.

w-f-4612Now, come along dear reader…
Is this image pleasantly and fleetingly amusing, or is this out-and-out horror? There is a natural easy-going warmth in that smile isn’t there? But, on the other hand, we do seem to have some kind of beady-eyed hairy animal wearing a little jacket with brass buttons – me, I always find animals wearing human clothes a bit disturbing – Donald Duck and his girlfriend for example, or organ grinder’s monkeys in tiny coloured jackets and pill-box hats that you see in films set in Victorian times, Sherlock Holmes ones perhaps? Those monkeys always seem to have fear in their eyes don’t they? And of course people used to dress their dogs up in coats and pretty frocks like little humans and get them to strut about on their hind legs didn’t they?
Quickly glancing back to the image above, what I find particularly disturbing for some reason is the combination of that obviously feminine mouth and the flesh coloured hairy chest visible in the open neck of the jacket, never mind the hairy face…
Yes, this is another of my mail art postcards, a simple collage using clippings snipped and ripped from old magazines and stuck on a nice brightly coloured A6 card. I think this one works unusually well; there is something being said here, but I don’t quite know what it is… Let’s just say that this is surrealism, and leave it at that…

  1. It made me grin like a loon when I saw this! “A smile given, is always returned, and never a penny was spent” my nana always said.(which makes no sense at all) And regarding the dog dressing up, well people sadly do that even now. I met a tiny three legged dog the other day, called bambi, who wore a lovely stripey jumper. Also the amount of halloween outfits for pets that are on sale right now, is ridiculous!

      “Like a loon” eh?…
Your nana sounds like a wise lady to me!
Of course I do approve of dogs in little jackets in the cold weather…
Oh, actually I think I saw a dog in a black plastic cloak the other day… He did look rather good…

    Greeting card poem…..
You’ve bought a pair of little boots
    And considered sweaters maybe
This card is just to let you know
Your dog is not a BABY!
