I do like a nice bit of sky…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s financial forecast is for everyone to finally realise that world finance is an inherently chaotic system and that predicting anything in it is impossible.

dscn4685So, walking home from town one day last week there was a wonderful sunset – we do seem to get plenty of nice skies here in Dulltown – of course if you mention this, people tend to mutter about pollution and bad air…
Everyone takes photos of colourful skies, Flickr, the photo sharing site, is packed full of them, but the pictures never look anything like as impressive as the real thing do they? You can stand there goggling at the feathery shapes of the clouds and the delicate assortment of colours: the pinks, the oranges, the smiling slits of red, various blues (cerulean is popular), and often a funny green slides in and surprises us – green, in the sky, surely not… But when you look at your little photo later, there is none of that gob-smacking awe that you experienced when taking it. (GS) It’s yet another photo of a bloody sunset…
So, I generally don’t take pictures of this sort of thing.
However, as I walked up the bridge over the railway I couldn’t help but notice this illuminated sign on the other side of the wall, and how some of the colours on the woman’s face complemented and contrasted with God’s clever and intricate handiwork above.
She is pretty odd-looking isn’t she? Look at the way the red and the green are arranged above and below her eyes! If you wanted a bit of tasteful publicity doing, would you phone up this company? Someone has obviously been showing off their skills with Photoshop – or, perhaps they actually got her in and blathered make-up on her…
‘That’s it, that’s it, now come on, pout for all you are worth!… Oh, that’s great!…’
So my photo isn’t just a sunset, it’s a juxtaposition (love that word!) of the splendour of nature and the tawdriness of mankind… How’s that for arty talk?… It looks like it could be taken in Arizona, or somewhere similar, we should be hearing blues slide guitar playing in the background… Twang… twang… twang…

  1. I thought this was a computer background thingy and the bit at the bottom was the random pop up advertising that you can’t get rid of no matter how many times you press the little “x”. Lovely shot – I can never get enough sunsets/sunrises. And the girl does look quite suited to that environment. 🙂
