Mail Art Postcard No. 4608…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s Raymond Chandler quotation is from The High Window (1943):
He looked me over without haste and without much pleasure. He blew smoke delicately and spoke through it with a faint sneer.
‘You’re Marlowe?’
I nodded.
‘I’m a little disappointed,’ he said. ‘I rather expected something with dirty fingernails.’
‘Come inside,’ I said, ‘and you can be witty sitting down.’

w-f-4608What’s this? A toad with three shopping bags? Or is he a frog? Can you tell a toad from a frog by just staring him in the eye? Me, I can’t…
Ah, this is just another of my mail art postcards, a simple collage on fluorescent card using clippings from that awful British TV listings magazine What’s On TV.
He doesn’t look too happy does he? Facially he reminds me a bit of that great Hollywood actor Ernest Borgnine – I liked Ernest, he always lifted a film, even when he was stuck in a bad one.
Speaking of lifting things, what do you think is going on here? This toad, or frog, or perhaps ‘froad’, in posture doesn’t look unlike those very wide squat chaps and lasses in the Olympics who show off by managing to get big lumps of metal off the ground – sorry, but it takes a bit more than that to impress me…
But back to Mr Froad, he looks to be deep in thought doesn’t he? I wonder what he’s pondering on; perhaps a couple of fat juicy insects he’s got lined up for his evening meal, and later for supper, maybe a nice big plateful of microwaved worms?…

Oh good old Raymond and his sparkling prose.
Yikes–that frog certainly has a no-nonsense expression–a Mr Frowny Face–as if to say ‘You wanna mess with me ? Let’s go, bring it on!’.

This fellow looks like our President-elect…minus the hair, that is(K)
