This year’s non-Christmas card…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s dictionary words are: ajowan, glyconic, quatorze, tuyere, quatch-buttock, and harmattan. Please have these words looked up and placed in suitable sentences ready for Professor Mouldie first thing after breakfast tomorrow morning. Should the professor turn up wearing a paper-mache dinosaur head you must not remark on, nor in any way draw attention to this.

dscn4729I don’t really do Christmas (look out folks, here it comes!…), but being a visually oriented sort of person I do take the opportunity to knock up a few cards and send them to people at this time of year; well, only to people who sent me a card the year before – I do keep meticulous records!
If someone misses one year, or their card gets lost in the post, they don’t receive one from me the following year. It’s quite good really, the number I have to send out is decreasing nicely…
Anyway, after writing that little dramatic rant on the festive season a few days ago (click here) I decided that instead of adding the rather bland (and non-Christian) ‘Season’s Greetings’ to this year’s, I would put ‘Merry Solstice’ on them, and be a bit ‘pseudo-pagan’ instead.
For the images on these cards I generally use a photo of one of my old charcoal drawings; this one is called ‘Sunshine’ and was done in 1991.
‘Are those big lumpy things ancient standing stones Dave? Or do those shapes cleverly represent the ancient Britons themselves, up out of bed early after the long cold dark night, staring goggle-eyed at the newly risen sun, which is radiating light, optimist, and health?…’
Happy solstice everyone!…

Merry Solstice means so much more than Happy Holidays!
