Veronica and the spare characters…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s weather will feature: exploding whiteness on high, a badly painted azure and cream backdrop, falling scallops of spiteful ice, and horizontal slices of slimy orange and obscene pink as evening encroaches.

I received an airmail letter this morning. It was from Veronica Crush, writer from the glory days of the Hull Surrealist League, now living in New York with tall tree surgeon and heir to a multi-million dollar fortune, Monty Tick. I was hoping that she had included one of her ‘stories’ in the envelope for us, but no, she said that she had been suffering from writer’s bock – I think she might have meant block… but I could be mistaken.
She did however enclose, along with a nice postcard showing a heavily doctored image of Donald Trump hugging Kanye West, a list of spare character names she had jotted down over the past few months, but as they had at present nowhere to live and breath, she said that I was welcome to make use of them if I fancied, as she could easily come up with some more should the bock lift and she could resume her scribbling:

Terry Speednut
Vanessa Gong-Soup
Sue Pru Goshoo
Giles Montefiori-Bonbon
Tiger-Tom Nippler
Sidney ‘the egg’ Kopka
Stephanie Duff-Box
Viscount Buttermoi of Chiddle
Hank Stodge
Barbara Marborough
‘Mellow’ Jock Whimrod
Russell-Joe Drommet III
Leanne Leelahn-Meelan
Ivan Zonker
Lord Johnny Whetscone

About Dave Whatt

Grumpy old surrealist artist, musician, postcard maker, bluesman, theatre set designer, and debonair man-about-town. My favourite tools are the plectrum and the pencil...
