Mail Art Postcard No. 4497…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s colours are: beer brown, vulgar violet, crispy coral, moping mauve, gregarious green, yawning yellow, and bickering black.

Oh, these cards will be worth a fortune one day!…
Yes, it’s another of my mail art postcards. a simple collage using clippings from that awful dumbed-down British TV listings magazine What’s On TV.
Gosh! She really jumps out at you doesn’t she? It’s all eyes, teeth, and red lips! Isn’t it odd, how instantly accessible the image is? There is a certain warmth and a good-natured feel to it, despite the fur…
‘What fur?’ I hear you ask, and then you say, ‘Oh, yes…’ – Or maybe you don’t.
Well, I mean, there are quite a few things going on here that should be unsettling, and possibly upsetting: the eyes are much too close to the mouth, she has no space for a nose (but who notices noses?) but the eyes and mouth do seem to have been taken from the same photograph; the fur, which we almost read as her hair (well I do), doesn’t belong to a real animal at all, to me it looks like a teddy bear. What else? Oh yes, that black bow, or bow-tie – it’s like part of the costume that those ‘Bunny Girls‘ used to wear back in the creepy dark days of the 1960s-1970s – unfortunately it does seem to somehow compliment this young woman’s bright engaging demeanour…
Phew!… I love surrealism!…

ummm, her mouth scissors are showing….

  2. For some bizarre reason, this reminded me of the people that go to the corner shop to buy fizzy juice at lunchtime, in those onesies, Y’know….like giant baby-gro’s? 🙂

  3. memadtwo says:

Well, this is just what I needed today!

This picture brings to mind the Furries. .I don’t know if they are in Europe too but there are actually grown people with a bizarre fetish involving wearing full body costumes like stuffed animal childrens’ toys. Ugh ! There are even organized get-togethers and (disturbingly) they will even have sex in costume… too creepy !

In doubt ? check ‘furries’ in images

    • Dave Whatt says:

Well Kate, I don’t know if they are in Europe too – I seem to recall seeing something on the TV about people dressing in cat costumes with ears and stick-on whiskers for erotic purposes – but I have never come across them myself – (oh, do pardon my unfortunate wording.)
