Mail Art Postcard No. 4712…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s wrinkled old black and white snapshot is the one of a small me in a romper suit, looking glum, sitting on Winston Churchill’s knee.

Isn’t it annoying when, all the time, you are trying to be a surrealist, and then real things pop up which are far stranger than anything your poor brain could think up?
Here’s yet another of my mail art postcards, a simple pithy collage on bright card using clippings from that dreary British TV listings magazine, What’s On TV.
No, but really! ‘Comfy Supersoft Reviver’ – what the hell does that mean?
Is it a thing that you can buy? A heathy beverage? A lozenge? An app for your bloody phone? A quick injection at the doctor’s? A weekend in a posh hotel by the sea? An electronic furry talking pet? A bottle of scotch and a pile of illegal drugs? A new slant on an old religion? A household robot with soft hands? A tickling stick? A cleverly shaped expensive pillow?…
Come on, let’s chant this together: comfy supersoft reviver, comfy supersoft reviver, comfy supersoft reviver, comfy supersoft reviver!… Ah…

Of course this lady (who looks like she’s forever frozen in time, which of course she is!) wasn’t connected to that stuck-on line of text from the magazine at all – she was probably promoting online gambling, or some other crazy pastime, and had just won a substantial sum – or actually, being a model/actor who regularly does this sort of work, she was pretending that she had…
‘Oh, that’s really great Mandy – just hold that big eyes-wide smile as long as you can – that’s super!…’ Click! ‘See you next week for the Succulent Sausages promo!…’

Hm… yes, a successful piece of work I think…
Possibly this card, this artwork, is itself now a comfy supersoft reviver. What do you think dear reader? Do you feel revived? I most certainly do…

  1. Sharon Mann says:

I can say I’m awake now, I am laughing out loud! A “comfy supersoft reviver”, might be a cat.

  2. Dana Doran says:

I think it might be pointing to aging….a phrase that was born of the even more ridiculous “soft rock.” Those that did enjoy “soft rock” in their youth haven’t been listening… they can’t listen because their hearing is failing….hence the revivor (the ear piece)… comfy supersoft revivor. duh……

  3. Dana Doran says:

    Ok. I deserve that.

  4. Good lord!! She certainly looks like she has been revived alright!
