It’s Avenger-Trek again…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s unusual china teapot is the one shaped like the sound of a villainous chuckle from the dusty corner of a darkened chamber. An excellent pourer, but it does cool the tea somewhat.

I love the way you can, all these years later, still watch episodes of the 1960s TV series The Avengers, and also the original 1960s series of Star Trek with Kirk and Spock. Ah, the best of US TV and the best of British! Sometimes they are on at the same time on different channels – what would it be like flicking between the two and watching both?

‘We’re breaking free Captain!…’
‘Are you tired Mr Steed?’
‘Thank you Scotty!’
‘Ha ha ha ha ha!… Priceless!’
‘Welcome aboard.’
‘What about a ride in the tumbrel?’
‘I have a thousand questions Captain.’
‘And then, suddenly, swish!…’
‘I miss conversation Captain.’
‘Why don’t you tell Steed what you were doing?’
‘Captain’s log, Stardate 5725.3.’
‘It’s just a cheap trick Mrs Peel.’
‘It’s not often I have this pleasure.’
‘The theme is Dickens…’
‘It’s a dummy!.’
‘My word, you have filled out!’
‘On route to Memory Alpha.’
‘I hope it’s Little Nell!…’
‘The nicest woman to come aboard this ship!’
‘Eat drink and be merry!’
‘His heart throbbed only to the ship’s engines…’
‘A hooded fruit bat expression?’
‘Mr Scott!… Mr Scott!…’
‘John Steed, I’m happy to meet you again!’
‘Magnification 8!’
‘You can amuse us all tonight Mrs Peel.’
‘Mr Sulu – get us out of here!…’
‘Relax, relax! Don’t fight me!’
‘Do you feel like walking to sick bay?’
‘Meet me upstairs Mrs Peel.’
‘Lieutenant Uhura – damage report!’
‘A marvellous piece of knitting?’
‘Mr Spock, an explanation?’
‘Soft woollen socks.’
‘You are being completely uncooperative!’
‘You are dramatizing far too much!’
‘Not everyone takes to space travel.’
‘Mrs Peel, it is rather late you know…’
‘Should we raise protective shields?…’

Now the Star Trek song is playing in my head.
