Distant galaxies, or just bird shit?…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s dictionary words are: arcanum, araeometer, arbalest, aptote, archegonium, argand, and beslubber. Please have these words looked up and placed in suitable sentences ready for Professor Mouldie first thing after breakfast tomorrow morning. The professor will conduct the lesson from a tall stool and will be wearing a long wig and dressed in the red and white garb of a high court judge. Sentences for poor sentences will be handed down at the end of the lesson. (HCJ)

Yes, this is a shot from the Hubble Deep Field Telescope showing thousands of galaxies which were formed a couple of shakes of a lamb’s tail after the big bang. (click) We are not short of galaxies in this universe are we? According to Hubble there are a good hundred billion of the buggers. It certainly gives you a bit of perspective on tiny human things such as Brexit, global warming, the shape of someone’s arse, and a few other daft things that we get up to, such as: religion, driverless cars, wars, fracking, Celebrity Big Brother, rap music, building long walls, golf, sex, etc. Of course each one of those galaxies will have plenty of stars in it – ‘ours’ (what a nerve, calling it ‘ours’) the Milky Way, has 300 billion stars in it, not to mention their concomitant planets, with interesting creepy-crawly things trotting around on them. Gosh, it really makes you think, doesn’t it? Well, no, it doesn’t…
We distracted humans would rather think about money, and nice cosy things much nearer home…

No, you see, it’s bird shit. It’s pretty obvious really – but it does have the vague look of a NASA photo, don’t you think? I took this yesterday afternoon. It’s just an area of pavement under a tree that is pretty popular with the birds. Yes, we still have some birds! Isn’t that great? We haven’t quite killed them all off… yet…
Me, I’ll miss the chirping, and the twittering, and the bird shit, when they’ve all gone…

You had me at “beslubber.” I simply can’t wait to use that word….bee-slub-ber….it’s fun to enunciate you know….like Pascagoula, it just fills up your mouth! My new puppy has proved to be part bird….Picasso continually seeks a high perch – like birds. The fortunate part is that while perched on high, he doesn’t seem to be able to shit….as a matter of fact, he doesn’t seem to be able to commit to shitting outside, he prefers a hardwood surface….oh! this is SO much fun!

    • Dave Whatt says:

A hardwood surface eh? Mahogany? Teak? Maple? How about ebony? You should take him round to other people’s houses to try out different shitting woods…
What a picky dog he is!…

      • Dana Doran says:

Oh your Highness!! You are your own court jester! It’s engineered hardwood….I do think that might be wood chips with veneer. I do plan to do just that here shortly…he can try different laminate surfaces as I stay in roadside motels (that accept pets) on the way to Memphis…it should be a memorable adventure.

      • Dave Whatt says:

“Many motels on my way to Memphis” – sounds like the title of your new novel Baroness.
Do have a safe and enjoyable trip my dear!…

I’m anticipating…..I simply must sell the home on the West Coast before moving….

      • Dave Whatt says:

For some reason I always pictured you being near the East Coast, but then I’ve always been hopeless at geography…

      • Dana Doran says:

hum….did you know that most American’s can look at a map of the world and cannot locate even one country? I just saw a little tv “on the street” story on it. Seemed about right… There are two Washingtons, one is designated “D.C.,” (Capital of the U.S.) (neither a state nor city but a district.) —hey, I wonder if the founding fathers (sounds religious doesn’t it?) planned it to be the same enigmatic curiosity box that is the Vatican (ho!)? The other Washington shares a border with Canada, on the Western coast (not to slight Hawaii’s most westernism) (can you tell I’m waiting on someone?) and its capital is not Seattle, but Olympia. It’s a very pretty place – not Seattle – but the state….lots of trees – so many that it probably offsets man’s infringing on well, our own home. Here, we are made to feel guilty (we pay for this pleasure — tuition to college) when we displace “nature,” of course, that assumes that humankind is NOT NATURAL. It assumes all other animals and plants were here first and we’re assaulting it….bad us. gulp. Anyway, I’ve been living in the later. Sometimes completely unnoticed….for the last 10 years. I hate it here. The people who live here rarely get outside its borders….its a strange place where they think very small. I haven’t met one person with a big dream here. It’s really time to go. The phone….

      • Dave Whatt says:

        Phew! Goodness me Baroness!
        A geography lesson!
Yes, I stupidly assumed that Washington State might be somewhere near Washington DC, but no…
Do you really hate it there? It sounds quite ‘dreamy’ – possibly a bit too ‘dreamy’ for you?…
“Thinking small” – perhaps WS is a bit like a bigger and prettier version of Dulltown UK? Perhaps I should have moved out from here years ago, and perhaps been a bit more stimulated…
        Hm, silly me!…
PS: Yesterday on Twitter I happened upon that video clip you mentioned, with young Americans pointing at a map of the world and trying to name a few countries… Whoa!…

Infinite galaxies or merely birdshit – one of life’s eternal questions …..
