Red lips and phone boxes…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s carefully selected colours are: Mozart mauve, Beethoven brown, Prokofiev pink, Brahms beige, Haydn heliotrope, and Rimsky-Korsakov russet.

Good god! Look at the red on those lips!…
Yes, about a week ago I was sliding through Dulltown centre on my way to have a look at an item of interest that until recently I didn’t even know the city had. It’s one of only six remaining in the country – an example of one of the very first phone boxes introduced in Britain in 1920. It is an original K1. The ‘K’ stands for ‘kiosk’, and the designs which followed it were named K2, K3, etc. Anyway, we have one here in Dulltown, no phone in it though. Would you like to see a photo I took? Here…

Yes, so, about a week ago I was sliding through Dulltown centre on my way to…
And I spotted yet another closed down empty shop. The council hadn’t yet bothered cheering up and camouflaging the window with big pictures of flowers, parks, and local architecture, so you could see inside and admire the emptiness and desolation.
Of course it was the face in the window that grabbed my attention – isn’t she great, in both senses of the word? It looks as if someone has made a half-hearted attempt to peel her off, but proving more difficult than expected they have given up half way through. The funny thing is, that even though her eyes have gone, one’s, the viewer’s, brain, expecting to see eyes, sort of creates a pair out of the jagged top edges of the image where it has been picked away.
Me, I really like this serendipitous snap, but I didn’t think I would when I took it. It’s a bit moody, and strange, isn’t it? I’m glad that eye-catching staircase was there in the background, it adds ‘mystery’, as if someone is about come trotting down it, or if she, Miss Lips, is about to peel herself off and skip away up it…
Definitely an ‘uneasy’ composition. Even that shadow on the back wall looks a bit sinister, well, I think it does. And, you may notice that the right hand half of the photo has nothing whatever of interest in it!…
If this was printed up nice and big, and framed, on the wall of a posh gallery, what title would you suggest for it dear reader?…
Me, I think I’d pinch a title from Giorgio de Chirico – Mystery and Melancholy of a Street.

Cool “phone booth” as we say in the US. The woman looks as though she is luring in a passers by.
