The Bird…

But first…
Dulltown, UK/Europe: Today’s elephant in the room is the one rolling about on the carpet like a playful puppy. Gosh! Just feel the floor bounce and shake!…

Here’s a picture of mine from last December.
It’s not that startling, is it?
I was humming and ahhing for a few minutes about whether it was interesting enough to bother showing you dear reader. The architecture isn’t up to much is it? Not too many Gothic cathedrals, minarets, obelisks, or NASA launch gantries in there, just a few ordinary winter trees, suburban houses and bungalows.
Still, that’s a very nice sky – so clear above, with nice pinky clouds at the horizon. But of course there are a couple of elements which make this photo slightly interesting I suppose; one being the ridiculously tilted street lamp (the ground is quite boggy and unstable in these parts), and the other being the bird, which I have sneakily framed up there in the top right corner, as something you might not notice at first, but possibly smile at when you spot him. Once you’ve seen him he sort of gives the rest of the composition a bit of purpose, as if he’s in charge of the whole thing. (By the way, I can tell it’s a ‘he’ bird even from here.)
Perhaps he’s saying, Now, if we could just move a couple of those ugly cars… What we really need is a cute dog in the picture, perhaps in the middle of the road staring up at the photographer… I think I might fly over to the top of the crooked lamppost and see what all this looks like from there…
Come to think of it, those three lampposts look a bit like beaky birds themselves – I think we should have the music from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho playing as we look at this picture, don’t you? Oh, I just tried it, it works really well…
Hm, I think I might give the photograph, and this post, the title. ‘The Bird’
