How about another of my odd drawings/paintings?…

But first…
Dulltown, UK: Today’s politician is the honest one. Oh, sorry, I just can’t seem to find one of those…

Aha! Let’s have a look at this one!

Black and Colour. No. 8. 2024.
Charcoal, fluorescent paint, and black ink, on paper, about 24″ x 15″, 60 cm x 38 cm.

Well, this one looks like a puzzle, doesn’t it, dear reader?
But is it supposed to be funny?
Come on, Dave, you know art shouldn’t be funny! The whole point of art is to be, very serious, very serious indeed!
Well, it’s about time it changed!

What do you think of the captions?
I’m quite proud of doing those. Making marks that look like letters, but aren’t, isn’t as easy to do as you might think.
Do they draw you in, to look a bit closer, dear reader? I do hope so.

But, is there a glaring mistake in this piece?
You’d think that the coloured text might be under the coloured piece of work, and that the black and white text would be… Well, I’m sure that you get the idea of what I’m doing, what I have done, here.

Of course, it is probably all about the optical, eye-catching, battle between colour and monochrome – you don’t often see both in one work, do you? It’s not normally done – maybe there is only me doing it? Black and white is okay, and plenty of colour is okay too, but you don’t often see the two mixed up and bumping around like this!
Good!… I’m pleased with that – that’s what these things are all about!

Maybe this composition is trying to look like a piece of white painted art gallery wall?
Images nailed on the wall, and some text pinned underneath, just in case the visitor needs help coming to terms with the thing. We all read what is says underneath, don’t we?… Do we?…
Maybe when we look at this one, we glance down in the hope that the text below will tell us what the hell we are supposed to be looking at – ah, but no, it doesn’t.

Apparently, annoying art is good for you!…
How very, annoying!

PS:
Of course, the hardest thing about doing this one, was carefully drawing those two rectangles!

Oh, I do like this one, Dave. I wouldn’t say it was annoying – but intriguing, amusing and a pleasing composition. How much is it?
